Charlotte & Jack’s Shustoke Barn Winter Wedding

I first met Charlotte & Jack back in February last year at their wedding venue, Shustoke Barn in Warwickshire. As soon as I arrived, it was obvious what a stunning venue it is. The 18th-Century barns surround a beautiful courtyard with ancient olive trees and fire pits. Inside there are flagstone floors, beautiful oak beams, walls filled with candles and the lovely sparkle of fairy lights – perfect for a winter wedding!

After chatting to them and having a look around the venue, I knew it was set to be a great wedding and I was really excited when they confirmed they wanted to book me!

The wedding was in early December and in the days leading up to their wedding day Storm Desmond brought very strong winds and this was the same on the day. Luckily Shustoke Barn is such a beautiful venue inside and kept everyone warm and cosy. The combination of these strong winds and it being a winter wedding, meaning lighting is always trickier, definitely kept me on my toes, but I love a challenge!

I arrived in the morning to cover the bridal preparations at Charlotte’s parents’ house in Tamworth. Charlotte and her bridesmaids appeared to be relaxed with a bit of added nervous excitement from the bride. Everything seemed to be running to schedule and I was able to leave in plenty of time to get to Shustoke Barn so I was there for Charlotte’s arrival.

After battling to keep my car from being blown off the road by the immense power of the wind, I arrived and popped inside where everyone was keeping warm. I found Jack to say hello and see how he was – predictably nervous! After Charlotte arrived it was time for the ceremony which was lovely and relaxed.

A drinks reception followed this upstairs where the entertainment was the beautiful singing of Charlotte’s bridesmaid Romany. After Romany had finished her set, I persuaded everyone to pop outside into the courtyard for a quick group shot of the entire wedding party before I took the happy couple off for a few photos of the two of them together. To avoid the windswept look, we did the photos inside using the daylight pouring through the stunning glass doors.

The wedding breakfast started with the speeches so they could relax and enjoy the meal without any pre-speech nerves. The final daylight had just about disappeared by the time the speeches concluded. The sparkle of all the fairy lights, candles, and warm colours of the lights gave a wonderful Christmassy feel to the rest of the evening.

The cutting of the cake followed and then I took a few more photos of family, friends, groomsmen and bridesmaids before the first dance. I stayed to capture the dance floor when everyone joined them and then left Charlotte & Jack to enjoy the rest of their night.
